How to launch a Palm Pre ? – step by step manual

with one comment

Amazing guys from the Engadget has presented a manual of launching the Palm Pre. As we know all will happen in next two weeks, 6th of June being precise. Three day before  the grand premiere there will be an Hollywood event with loads of celebrities, stars etc. Than some VIP parties and breakfasts and so on. The Pre would cost 199 USD (using a special offer). Of course all that in the US …

But even that not all will get their Pres as soon as they’d wish. It is said that each shop will get just few pieces of them (sleeping bags salers – get ready 🙂

And of course there is no SINGLE word about it’s availability in Europe, not mentioning Poland …

Here’s the new iPhone. Ooops!

leave a comment »

The next iPhone and its specs are the top subject of gzimo rumors for good few months. But here’s something new and rather good one – specs which have been accidentally provided by the Austrian. As Telecompaper.com writes, information about that “oops situation” were reported by German and Austrian press. According to their reports, inormation about new iPhone has appeared on the T Mobile’s on-line shop web site (as You can guess, the entry has been removed one hour after it had been discovered) . I was claimed that the new iPhone would have 32 GB storage and  cost EUR 0 in combination with a T-Mobile contract.

Just to remind You – the new iPhone premiere is expected to take place during the World Wide Developer Confernece, which will be held 8-12 of June in San Francisco. One week more to wait.

All (wrong) about Ida – great discovery or great misunderstanding?

leave a comment »

UPDATE:Thanks to the New Scientist Ida can now enjoy her scientific name formally and legally!

FROM THE SHORT SHARP SCIENCE blog:
“Since I spoke to the ICZN about the name Darwinius masillae, the journal has come up with an emergency fix – they’ve printed out 50 copies of the paper. They’re on sale for $10 each from the PLoS offices in San Francisco. Apparently the commissioners are now happy and the name is now valid. Phew.” Agree – phew!

————

Well well, lat week we’ve all hear about the discovery of fossil nicknamed Ida – a skeleton which supposed to belong to the animal being a IdaColourNewTeasermissing link in human evolution. And all this right in 200th birthday of Charles Darwin, which we are celebrating this year. Cool, isn’t?

Unfortunately, Ida occures to be quite problematic girl. Fossil. Whatever. First, there are some strong doubts wheter Ida really is a missing link.

Later the Wall Street Journal has written that the date of the announcement of the discovery was enforced by the TV producers.

And noww, as the New Scientist’s blog “Short Sharp Science” reports, there are even doubts wheter Ida can keep its scientific name. Formally Ida has been named  Darwinius masillae, in honour of Charles Darwin’s 200th birthday. Paper about its discovery has been published in the online science journal “PLoS ONE”.

“But the rules set by the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN) require species names to be published in print before they can be formally allocated.” – the blog reminds.

Fallin Water by F. L. Wright

Fallin Water by F. L. Wright

Though little girls suppose to play with Barbie dolls I’ve always prefered LEGO. And I think I still have my box full of colourfull blocks somewhere here. That’s why I was very pleased to hear that LEGO is coming u with new brand – LEGO Architecture.

As You may guess, those sets will present most famous masterpieces of architecture. Among first six sets to come You’ll find the Falling Water house by Frank Llod Wright and the Guggenheim Museum building. Great idea, don’t You think?

Toast with the fresh water

leave a comment »

Crew living on the International Space Station can drink its own, home made water. At last. The NASA’s Mission Control radioed the news to the crew Wednesday, following a report from the Water Recovery System team that station program managers approved. With the OK for he WRC, the ISS finally will be able to sustain crew of six person, twice as big as it could till now.

Expedition 19 Commander Gennady Padalka and Flight Engineers Mike Barratt and Koichi Wakata celebrated the decision with a toast in the Destiny laboratory.

“This has been the stuff of science fiction. Everybody’s talked about recycling water in a closed loop system, but nobody’s ever done it before. Here we are today with the first round of recycled water,” said Barratt. “We’re really happy for this day and for the team that put this together. This is the kind of technology that will get us to
the moon and further.”

Download audiobooks for free while visiting Book Fair

with one comment

If You’re a book fan as I am (IMHO I think it should be treated in my case ), You’re probably keen on visiting book fairs  to get the freshest titles, to meet the authors, to get autographs etc. This weekend we have an International Book Fair here in Warsaw and I just can’t wait to go there. This year one of the exhibitors, audioteka.pl has come with quite cool idea of hotspots, where You can download fragments of audiobooks via your bluetooth. Audiobooks are available in .mp3 format, so You can listen them using your mobile, iPod or any other player. Though these are only samples You will have chance to taste the audiobook experience.
